I ordered a few typeface sample books online to see how different foundries approach showcasing their typefaces. The samples were ordered from Colophon Foundry & Radim Pesko, two foundries who offer beautiful typefaces made to an extremely high standard. Both offreded very different formats to their specimen books, Radim Pesko offers a one off huge publication with typographic statements using each of the foundries typefaces, where as colophon offers individual specimens for each typeface in a variety of sizes and formats.

This was part of my research towards my 'Glyphtionary' given the content of these books I have made notes on their format, layout and the general form of the publications to see what I could learn and apply to my own design.
I am extremely fond of this method of labelling the sections using the side of the publication. Depending on how large I make my own publication this may be an interesting route to explore.
Also the black and white inner pages are low cost to print and could give me more room to play around with an interesting cover design on some nice bulky stock.
I hope so...
This is a more colourful approach from Colophon, promoting their Central Avenue typeface in a Zine style specimen that can be taken apart and used as separate posters.
In the Radim Pesko there are pages containing hundreds of glyphs, which will come in handy when checking through my final lists making sure I have as many as possible.

Unfortunately there are no names but there are codes to the files that can be used in InDesign to find out the names.
