Stock / Colour Choices

After having a browse through the GF Smith books and pantone swatches we produced a series of colour options to use for the yearbook. The middle sections will use a two colour pallet - fluorescent spot and and black. The student spreads will use full colour and we will try and negotiate an alternative stock with the printers. The inner section will be on a light grey stock either 120 or 80gsm (120 seems more appropriate, as the 80 will allow to much ink to seep through the pages).

As much as I like this stock we don't feel it sets an appropriate tone of voice for the course. Also when considering what spot colour to use for the middle section its hard to find an appropriate match that will work with the spot colour in the middle section. There is a florescent pantone but I don't feel its a close enough match to work with.

The dark grey sits really well with any of the fluorescent spot colours and has potential for a really interesting white foiling on the cover. I will see where Dom's up to with the cover designs and see where to go from there.
The racing green is another
The imperial blue is a lovely colour, sets a serious tone for the book and works well when set off against the fluorescent orange pantone (804 U). This is my ideal colour scheme, but I will need to discuss with the rest of the group before progressing.

This was another of the preferred options as the green will sit well against the grey cover and light grey inside. The only concern is that it will lose its pungency when the ink soaks into the uncoated stock. We have a few options to run with but will need to discuss them as a group before making any final decisions. I will work out some layouts for both and see where we can go from both options.
