Japanese Design

After speaking with Nils and hearing him explain the importance of his & Inodas background in their design principles I felt it would be a nice angle to explore for the identity. I have done some brief research into Japanese design, not to gather a concept but to see the differences in design. Given that type is read downwards rather than to the right is interesting, but since Westernised culture becoming more prominent in Japan the reading flow now fluctuates between side to side to up and down. Typographically this might be an interesting aspect to explore...

This constructivist music poster particularly interested me. I instantly related the forms back to those of trees and the concentric circles that are created as they grow through the seasons. Exploring a de—constructed version of these might be nice to develop some more artwork for the brand identity. I will do research into the specific woods and how they grow to see how this idea could be developed.
